Roberson was injured after being tackled on UConn’s second offensive possession of the season.
UConn says Roberson will have surgery this week.
Heading into last Saturday’s season-opening loss at Utah State, the Huskies tabbed Roberson as their starting quarterback. Three days later, MRI results confirmed the on-field diagnosis of a torn ACL.
Roberson completed one of two passes and rushed for first-quarter touchdown before leaving the game with the knee injury.
The redshirt sophomore from New Jersey transferred to UConn in December from Penn State after coach Jim Mora was hired. He has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
With Roberson out for the season, the next man up for the Huskies is freshman Zion Turner.
In relief, Turner was impressive, considering the circumstances. He completed 12 of 31 passes for 109 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
“He’s a winner. He’s one of those guys that seems unfazed by circumstance,” Mora said. “He just stays in his lane and he just does his job, he has great poise and great focus. I think he feels that pressure but I’m not sure it affects him.”
