The expectations are sky high for the Buffalo Bills as top contenders for the AFC East title. Tom Brady isn’t in New England anymore, the Jets are still the Jets, and Miami is still trying to figure it out. The Bills know all eyes are on them as favorites to win the division.
Wide receiver John Brown sees big things ahead for Buffalo’s offense under coordinator Brian Daboll. Last season, Brown was the team’s number one target in the passing game. The addition of Stefon Diggs will likely move Brown to option 1A, but that’s all good with Brown.
On a zoom call with reporters, Brown didn’t hold back his excitement when talking about Buffalo’s potential offensive attack.
“I’m real excited. I’ve never been this excited especially with the way Coach Daboll has put things together,” Brown said. “We have so much that can look the same but confuse defenses. Even I get confused sometimes. I’m excited about that because there’s enough in there for everybody to eat.”
Brown had the best season of his six-year career in 2019, with 72 catches for 1,060 yards and six touchdowns. He’ll now see an adjusted role in the offense with the addition of Diggs as the new No. 1 receiver.
“I definitely think the defense will still play over the top (of me),” Brown said. “The plan is if they do decide to double him, I do my job to open him up. He will draw a lot of attention, and that can make me work to get the pressure off him. … He’s a big piece to the puzzle that we’ve been missing. So, with him in there, it’s just going to be hard for defenses to figure out what we’re going to do.”
Brown has game-changing speed, he runs a 4.34 in the 40-yard dash. Opponents had trouble containing Brown last season, now with Diggs in the mix, Daboll was probably a kid in the candy story while installing this year’s offense.
“I’m still working hard on this Brian Daboll playbook,” Brown said, “but you’ve got to love it. It’s kind of complicated, but once you get it down pat you will love everything about it. I’m real confident going into Week 1 with everything we have.”
