The college basketball world has been waiting for this type of performance from St. John’s.
For fans of the Red Storm, the sense of urgency was there all night from their team.
In the second game of a rare home-and-home, St. John’s sent a loud message to their critics with an 84-63 win over Seton Hall, Monday night at Walsh Gymnasium.
St. John’s (11-7, 3-4 Big East) was the more physical team from the opening tip.
Aaron Wheeler led the way with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Posh Alexander posted a game-high 19 points with seven rebounds.
Myles Cale had 16 points for the Pirates. Jared Rhoden added 12 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double.
It was a missed opportunity for Seton Hall (12-6 overall, 3-5 Big East) to capitalize on a rare opportunity to play a Big East game on campus (try 37 years since the last one).
On Saturday, at Madison Square Garden, St. John’s fell to Seton Hall, 66-60. We’re at the point in the season where teams are looking to build their resumes for March. The Johnnies, however, know they’ve underperformed.
This was a team in need of a signature win. The schedule gets more daunting, therefore the time was now to make a statement.
Monday night in South Orange, Red Storm head coach Mike Anderson finally saw the team he’s been looking for.
