Wilson was initially listed as questionable with a hamstring injury, Brett Rypien will replace him on Sunday.
This will be the second start of Rypien’s career and in a coincidence, both will have come against the Jets.
Wilson being ruled out ends week-long suspense over if he’d suit up on Sunday. The veteran quarterback injured his hamstring against the Chargers on Monday night.
Rather than take a chance on Wilson causing further harm to himself, head coach Nathaniel Hackett decided to rest his QB1 for the week.
Rypien led the Broncos to a 37-28 win in Week 2 of the 2020 season, going 19/31 for 242 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions.
It was Rypien’s one career start, it also happened to be against the Jets.
Throughout the week, Jets head coach Robert Saleh remained consistent in his expectations of Wilson playing on Sunday. Now, quite the curveball for a surging Jets team looking for their fourth consecutive win.
