The Knicks are acquiring forward Cam Reddish in a deal with the Atlanta Hawks, per multiple reports.
The trade will include forward Kevin Knox, and a 2022 first-round draft pick (protected) to the Hawks for Reddish, Solomon Hill, and a 2025 second-round pick.
News of the trade broke early Thursday afternoon.
For the 22-year old Reddish, the deal reunites him with former Duke teammate RJ Barrett. Moreover, both youngsters are in the third year of their rookie contracts. They’ll be up for extensions at the same time.
This season, Reddish is averaging a career-high 11.9 points per game this year while shooting 40.2% from the field and 37.9% from three-point range.
Reddish reportedly was looking for an increased role, with a potential contract extension approaching. The Hawks, however, have regressed this season, and already have several sizable contracts in place. The opportunity was there for Atlanta to move Reddish and create payroll flexibility.
Knox, the no. 9-overall pick in 2018 averaged 8.2 points across 195 games (61 starts) as a Knick. It’s an opportunity for a fresh start, however, it remains to be seen if he’ll get more time to shine in Atlanta. The 22-year old is headed for free agency this summer, and the Hawks will have the option to make him restricted by tendering a $7.9MM qualifying offer.
