Per multiple reports, the team is sending a conditional draft pick to the Jaguars in exchange for running back James Robinson.
With Breece Hall out for the season, the Jets moved quickly on a plan B.
The move to acquire Robinson comes a day after the Jets lost Hall, their rookie sensation and leading rusher, to a torn ACL.
At 24 years old, Robinson is in the final year of his contract and will be a restricted free agent in 2023. Last year, he suffered a torn left Achilles tendon last year in Week 16 against the Jets. Robinson made it back for the start of this season, however, became expendable in Jacksonville with the emergence of Travis Etienne Jr. as their lead running back.
Robinson has game, as an undrafted rookie in 2020, he rushed for 1,070 yards and seven touchdowns for Jacksonville.
This is a proactive move by general manager Joe Douglas. With a 5-2 record, Gang Green appears to be pushing their chips to the center of the table for continued success this season.
While the Jets will miss the playmaking of Breece Hall, bringing in Robinson to team with Michael Carter and Ty Johnson has potential to keep their ground game rolling.
