Hyde, due to a neck injury, will miss the rest of the 2022 season, his agent, Jack Bechta, tweeted Saturday morning.
Bechta wrote that a healthy return in 2023 is expected for Hyde, who is under contract with the Bills through next season.
Buffalo Bills head coach Sean Mcdermott, per Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN, declined to get into details when asked about Hyde’s injury throughout the week.
The Bills are currently prepping for Sunday’s game at the Miami Dolphins. Their secondary is banged up with cornerback Dane Jackson also dealing with a neck injury. Jackson will not play Sunday.
Additionally, safety Jordan Poyer is listed as questionable for Sunday with a foot injury. Hyde and Poyer have been one of the best safety duos in the NFL since joining the Bills as free agents in 2017.
Rookie cornerback Kaiir Elam will get his first NFL start alongside fellow rookie Christian Benford.
As for Hyde’s spot at safety, look for Jaquan Johnson to step into the starting role. Damar Hamlin would start in Poyer’s place if he cannot play on Sunday.
The 2-0 Bills head into Miami to face a red-hot 2-0 Dolphins team led by quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Doing so without Hyde, and possibly Poyer, raises the intrigue around one of the more-anticipated games on this week’s schedule.
Last Sunday, Tagovailoa threw for 469 yards and six touchdowns, four of which came during the final period, and the Dolphins rallied from a 21-point deficit to beat Jackson and the Ravens 42-38 on Sunday. It was a breakthrough performance for Tagovailoa.
Moreover, it put Miami on the radar of NFL experts as a team to watch this season. The team is feeding off the energy first-time head coach Mike McDaniel has brought to the table. Tagovailoa, with wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, form a legitimate threat to Buffalo’s wounded defense.
