The Mets received a dose of good news when an MRI Tuesday night showed ace pitcher Jacob deGrom is dealing with inflammation in his right lat. deGrom won’t throw for the next few days, the team said.
The two-time Cy Young award winner was scratched from his start Tuesday night against the St. Louis Cardinals. In corresponding moves, the Mets had Miguel Castro slotted to start in deGrom’s place, but the game was postponed due to poor weather conditions. Jordan Yamamoto was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse, where reliever Sean Reid-Foley was optioned.
deGrom, arguably the best pitcher in baseball, has a 2-2 record this season with a sparkling 0.51 ERA. He has 59 strikeouts over five starts.
The Mets will undoubtedly monitor his progress over the next few days. Yamamto will likely get the call to start if there’s a need down the line for a replacement. Moreover, the Mets also have Carlos Carrasco set to return in about 10 days.
