There’s two games left in another lost season for the New York Giants. Once again, Big Blue will be watching the playoffs at home, like the rest of us.
The Giants, currently at 4-11, are at the bottom of the NFC East. It’s not the result many were expecting from a team which spent millions in the offseason on roster upgrades.
While injuries have contributed to the problems, frustration within the fan base appears to be at an all-time high.
Their frustration is justified. Because the Giants are facing a familiar reality, they’re in need of a reboot.
The ownership group, John Mara and Steve Tisch, should be embarrassed at the product which fans have had to sit through. And if that’s the case, it’s time to give strong consideration to thinking outside the box.
If the reports are true, Dave Gettleman will be out as general manager after four years on the job. Gettleman has had more misses than makes and, under his watch, the Giants have regressed as a football team.
With a new general manager, it’s fair to question the future of the current head coach. Should Joe Judge be brought back despite a poor win-loss record? With all his straight talk-straight understanding, the results have not been there. It’s the Giants that have been repeatedly punched in the face by their opponents. There’s been little to justify giving Judge a third season to implement his plan.
Lastly, with uncertainty around the general manager and head coach, the starting quarterback also remains a primary concern for this team. This was the make-or-break season for Daniel Jones. However, with the third-year quarterback sidelined with a season-ending neck injury, the evaluation on him remains inconclusive.
What’s not inconclusive is the Giants needing a total overhaul from top to bottom.
They went all-in with their attempts to build a formidable offense around Jones — and failed. Their millions spent in free agency have not panned out. The fan base has every right to boo them out the building.
This is a team in need of a fresh start, with fresh faces and fresh perspective leading the way.
It’s time to reboot this New York Giants football team. And, this time, do it the right way.
