During a press briefing Wednesday, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced new guidelines which will impact the Mets and Yankees.
Effective May 19, both teams can open sections of their respective stadiums at full capacity. The catch, however, is it’s only for those who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Separate sections for unvaccinated baseball fans at both Citi Field and Yankee Stadium will be restricted to 33 percent capacity with social distancing of 6 feet.
The Governor also announced both teams are teaming up with the state Department of Health so that attendees can get vaccinated at the stadium during games.
Following Governor Cuomo’s briefing, the Yankees released the following statement:
“We want to thank Governor Cuomo for his decision, which will allow more fans into Yankee Stadium and provide us additional opportunities to further encourage people to get vaccinated. We have been honored to host a vaccination site at Yankee Stadium over these last three months.
If we can encourage more people to get vaccinated by giving away Yankees tickets, we are all in.
So come to the ballpark, get vaccinated, and root for the Yankees!
We also want to thank Mayor de Blasio, who also gave his strong support for this program.”
