The Mets have scratched Jacob deGrom from his scheduled start Tuesday night in St. Louis due to right side tightness, the team announced.
Right-hander Miguel Castro will start for the Mets against the Cardinals, most likely in an “opener” capacity.
Manager Luis Rojas said deGrom would undergo an MRI exam, with the results expected early Tuesday evening.
“[deGrom] let us know earlier today that he had some tightness on his right side,” Rojas said. “I saw him before coming to the field and he was stretching, trying to feel his right side a little bit, and that’s when we started discussing whether he was going to start or not.”
The two-time Cy Young Award winner was recently named National League Pitcher of the Month for April. Losing deGrom for any amount of time is a body blow to the Mets.
