deGrom has yet to pitch this season and is on the mend from a stress reaction in his right scapula.
The ace right-hander underwent his latest follow-up MRI yesterday, the team announced. The Mets issued the following statement in the wake of this latest test:
“He underwent follow-up imaging yesterday that revealed continued healing in the scapula. He will continue to build distance and velocity in his throwing program, and we will provide an update on his progress when appropriate.”
This latest update for deGrom, although brief, is encouraging for all involved as there’s no report of a setback.
With a quality starting rotation, that’s produced the sixth-best ERA in the majors, the Mets are right to be strategic and methodical with deGrom’s rehabilitation. c
Moreover, the team is playing winning baseball, coming into today’s action with a 23-13 record, and leading the NL East division.
The best approach for the Mets, based on deGrom’s injury history — specifically last season’s arm issues — is to continue taking it one step at a time with one of the best pitchers in baseball.
