The Mets reportedly have reached an agreement Kevin Pillar on a one-year deal. The deal has yet to be confirmed by the Mets, it is pending a physical.
Pillar is coming off a strong offensive 2020 campaign. The 32-year old hit .288 last season with six home runs in 54 games with 34 runs batted in. He split the 2020 season between Colorado and Boston.
The addition of Pillar gives the Mets more outfield depth. His right-handed bat is a big-time fit for a team with three left-handed starting outfielders (Dominic Smith, Brandon Nimmo, Michael Conforto).
Pillar’s glove is strong and will likely play big into the team’s defensive strategy in later innings.
The Mets also recently signed another strong defensive outfielder, Albert Almora Jr., to a one-year deal.
