Jets quarterback Zach Wilson will be out indefinitely injuring his right knee Sunday, at Gillette Stadium.
The Jets loss to the Patriots, 54-14, in one of the worst losses in franchise history.
While head coach Robert Saleh has his hands full this week trying to move his team forward and away from an embarrassing defeat. But that task becomes harder with uncertainty around Wilson.
Wilson reportedly hurt the posterior cruciate ligament of his right knee on a second-quarter hit by linebacker by linebacker Matt Judon. He initially was down for several minutes as he was examined by the training staff before eventually being able to walk off the field under his own power.
The injury came after the previous play in which Patriots defensive lineman Lawrence Guy also hit Wilson low along the sideline.
The extent of the injury remains unclear, there will be an MRI exam on Monday morning.
“Initially, we feel good,” Saleh said afterwards on Wilson’s injury status. “But you never know.”
The number two overall pick in the 2021 draft said his knee got “twisted” and he “felt a pop.” Judon tweeted well wishes for Wilson.
“The pain really isn’t there. It just kind of feels like something is off as far as just being loose or a little bit unstable a little bit,” Wilson said.
If Wilson is sidelined for extended time, and all indications are heading that way, all eyes will turn to backup quarterback Mike White likely taking over.
White, who hadn’t previously taken an NFL regular-season snap, stepped in against New England and completed 20 of 32 for 202 yards, the TD and two interceptions.
