Offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker is out for the rest of the 2022 NFL season with a torn triceps, head coach Robert Saleh announced Monday.
Vera-Tucker suffered the injury during Sunday’s win over the Broncos. For the Jets, another integral piece of their young core is down with a season-ending injury.
The news of losing Vera-Tucker comes on the same day it was confirmed rookie running back Breece Hall is also out for the remainder of the year with a torn ACL.
The 23-year-old Vera-Tucker excelled with increased time at tackle due to multiple injuries on the offensive line. This season, AVT has played right guard, left tackle, and right tackle. His versatility stood out in a unit that’s gone the extra yard to get the job done despite mounting adversity.
The Jets replaced Vera-Tucker at right tackle Sunday with Cedric Ogbuehi.
“It’s just a testament to the guys in this O-line room,” center Connor McGovern said. “Everybody wants to go out and play for each other, it doesn’t matter who it is. It’s a real testament to the coaches, to Cedric, who came in a couple of weeks ago. He came in and played a pretty good game. It’s not ideal, but there’s nothing we can do about it but take what’s given and make the most of it, winning games and rolling with punches as best we can.”
