Joe Flacco was a free agent looking for a place to land, he found it with the Jets.
The Jets have agreed to terms with the veteran on a one-year contract, the quarterback’s agency, JL Sports, announced on social media.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports the deal is worth $1.5 million, with a maximum value of $4.5 million with incentives.
Flacco will bring a much-needed veteran voice into the quarterbacks room for the Jets. He joins starter Sam Darnold and backups David Fales and Mike White. Rookie James Morgan has potential and could be starting out the season as the team’s third quarterback on the depth chart.
Flacco spent last season Denver after 11 years in Baltimore. He’s also rehabbing from a neck surgery in April. Flacco could be ready for action by August. Meanwhile, his voice and experience will come in handy for Darnold’s continued growth.
How important was upgrading the backup quarterback position for the Jets? In games where Darnold missed starts the past two years, the Jets went 0-6.
If Flacco’s ready to go by September, the Jets will have much-needed peace of mind for if Darnold goes down at any point during the season.
