New York Jets running back Breece Hall suffered a torn ACL and a minor meniscus injury on Sunday against the Denver Broncos.
Hall went down in the first half of the Jets’ 16-9 win over the Broncos. After being evaluated by the medical staff, he limped off the field and, eventually, headed into the locker room on a cart.
For the promising rookie, the injury means his season is over. For head coach Robert Saleh and his players, it’s next man up.
“It’s always tough,” Saleh said during his Monday press conference. “There’s two potential Pro Bowlers [Alijah Vera-Tucker was also ruled out for the season with a triceps tear]. We had this experience in 2020 in San Francisco when we visited the organization and lost a handful of guys for the season. It’s the NFL, next man up. M.C. [Michael Carter] proved he can carry the load, Ty Johnson did a nice job. And with the O-line, it’s been that way all year, guys shuffling in. I have a lot of faith in the guys who stepped in.”
Hall was emerging as a star in the league with 463 rushing yards, which is eighth in the league. He quickly became the Jets home run hitter on offense, with four touchdowns. On Sunday, Hall’s 62-yard touchdown run was the only time the Jets got in the end zone.
With the Jets sitting at 5-2 on the season, expectations have risen for a team no one expected to be enjoying so much success at this point. A major reason for this has been the team’s rookie class, including Hall.
Now, the Jets must move forward without one of their best players.
