Travis Jankowski, from Stony Brook University, has been a great addition for the Mets this season.
The Mets, at 18-8 on the season, are clicking on all cylinders. A key piece to their puzzle has been a 30-year old MLB veteran and product of Stony Brook University.
When Travis Jankowski signed with the Mets in the offseason, it didn’t come with all the hoopla like with the team’s more notable roster additions. However, a championship team always has role players that step up when their number’s called. The Mets have a supporting cast that ranks among the best in baseball, Jankowski is a big reason why.
On Tuesday, while seeing playing time in both games of a doubleheader sweep over the Atlanta Braves, Jankowski showed why his skill set brings so much value to the Mets.
Jankowski went 2-for-3 in game one with a walk, a stolen bases and three runs scored. By the end of the night, his slash line for 2022 is an impressive .321/.406/.321 with three stolen bases in three attempts.
If it’s as a pinch-runner, a late-game defensive sub, or getting a spot-start — Jankowski is making the most of his opportunities.
“Travis has been a pro, that’s why we wanted to keep him,” manager Buck Showalter said in between games. “He brings some tools that we need. He’s a great piece for us, a great teammate, and plays the game right.”
