It didn’t take long for the New York Giants to find themselves in a familiar situation.
Week 2 of the NFL season is already here for Big Blue. Three days removed from their 27-13 loss to the Denver Broncos, the Giants will board a train today and get ready for Thursday Night Football in Washington.
The turnaround is quick and, frankly, necessary. If the Giants come away with a win, they should consider getting a thank you fruit basket for the league’s schedule-makers.
Because this isn’t a normal week 2 on the schedule, at least not for this team. The performance against the Broncos frustrated the fan base. Moreover, it opened the gate to criticize the team’s offense.
Here’s what we know:
This is the first division game of the season for both teams.
The Giants have won five straight against the Washington Football Team and three consecutive games at FedEx Field. Additionally, quarterback Daniel Jones has won all four of his starts against Washington.
It should also be noted here that Jones is still only 8-19 as an NFL starter. However, you work with what you have in the pot.
For Washington, they will be without starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick (hip injury). The team will turn to Taylor Heinicke to come off the bench. The Giants’ defense will need to be ready because Heinicke has shown he’s no scrub. He started the NFC Wild Card playoff game against Tampa Bay and almost led Washington to an upset win.
If left to the fan base, Jason Garrett is on the hot seat and I’ll explain why. The Giants have scored 20 points or fewer in 10 of the 17 games since Garrett took over as offensive coordinator. The offense is predictable and lacks identity. Furthermore, they struggle putting the football in the end zone for touchdowns. It’s on Garrett to fix it.
The streets are definitely watching, and now they’re talking too. The only way for the Giants to quiet the noise is to come away from D.C. with a win.
