It’s a step forward for the Giants. It’s a step forward for the Jets and Bills.
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said professional sports teams in their respective states may return to training and competition. This opens the door for all three tri-state area NFL teams to open their training and practice facilities.
This is another step towards our new normal.
Murphy stressed this opening can take place in sports “if their leagues choose to move in that direction.’’ The NFL has already green-lit all 32 NFL teams for limited re-openings of their facilities, as long as this was in accordance with state and local authorities.
The Giants’ and Jets’ facilities are both respectively based in New Jersey.
“We have been in constant discussions with teams about necessary protocols to protect the health and safety of players, coaches, and personnel.” Murphy wrote on Twitter.
Under the current phase, the NFL is limiting personnel at team facilities. Coaches and most players are not permitted to return at this point. The only players allowed in team facilities are those who are rehabbing. This would be under the direction of the team’s athletic training staff.
“Governor Murphy and his administration continue to guide New Jerseyans through this very difficult time. We have been in close contact with Governor Murphy’s staff to comply with the state’s protocols throughout. With today’s announcement by the governor, we are finalizing our plans to reopen the Quest Diagnostics Training Center. We will continue to have as many employees as possible working remotely. For employees who need to return to work at our facility, we expect to begin that process next week, and we will do so in a systematic and safe way that adheres to the state’s guidelines and NFL protocols.”
New York Giants Team Statement
A number of NFL teams have begun the process of reopening their team facilities.
Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross believes there will be an NFL season in 2020, with or without spectators.
Major League Baseball, the NBA and the NHL are also in continued discussions for resumption of their seasons with their players’ unions.
