Shepard passed his physical and was activated off the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, clearing the way for his return to practice.
The veteran receiver suffered a season-ending Achilles injury last season in Week 15. A second-round draft choice in 2016, Shepard has the eighth-most receptions (349) in Giants history.
The return of Shepard to the practice field should provide a jolt of excitement for the team. It will also impact the depth chart at wide receiver with NFL teams currently knee-deep in roster decisions.
Nevertheless, if he’s healthy, that’s a huge plus for quarterback Daniel Jones having a familiar target to throw to.
Additionally, with Shep back in the mix, it’s another weapon for head coach Brian Daboll to deploy in his offensive game plan. With Kadarius Toney, rookie Wan’Dale Robinson, and Kenny Golladay — the 29-year old’s ability to line up on the outside or the slot position should play an integral role.
