The Giants have a strong need for an upgrade on the offensive line. It just so happens this year’s draft board is loaded with hog mollies.
So, what will GM Dave Gettleman do with the No. 4 overall pick? He has options and trading back for more assets could be too good to pass up.
There are teams behind the Giants, specifically the Dolphins at No. 5, looking to move up. If that’s for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa or one of the top-ranked offensive tackles, remains to be seen.
The Dolphins can bring a lot to the table in a potential deal, they have 14 picks ready to use. That’s the most in the league.
According to Giants beat writer, Pat Leonard, the Giants could find themselves in a position to move down a couple of spots and still get their guy.
The Giants can use a playmaker on defense and Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons would be tough to pass on. If they do, it can only be because Gettleman also knows he must upgrade the protection around quarterback Daniel Jones.
Tristan Wirfs, out of Iowa, has been the offensive tackle linked the most to the Giants. However, keep an eye on Andrew Thomas out of Georgia.
Thomas and Wirfs project high on the board. Reports also indicate Thomas is ranked as the top tackle on the board for the Giants.
If we’re indeed looking at a trade, the Dolphins could be looking to jump ahead of the Giants for Thomas. The same Miami Dolphins that need a quarterback and, for months, have been linked to Tagovailoa.
Gettleman and his staff have some big choices to make on draft night. What they do will go a long way towards evaluating how quick the general manager can get off the hotseat.
