Fordham University grad student forward Chuba Ohams (Bronx, N.Y. / Wadleigh) was named the 2022 Atlantic 10 Chris Daniels Most Improved Player in a vote by the conference coaches it was announced by the conference office today. Additionally, Ohams was also named second team All-Atlantic 10 and to the Atlantic 10 All-Defensive Team.
Ohams is the third Ram to earn the Chris Daniels Most Improved Player Award, joining Alejandro Olivares (1999) and Duke Freeman-McKamey (2000). He is the first Ram to earn All-Conference honors since Ryan Rhoomes in 2016 (third team).
On the year, Ohams, who was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week on Monday, leads the Atlantic 10 and ranks fifth in the NCAA in rebounding, averaging 11.5 rpg, and is also fifth in the nation in defensive rebounds (8.57/game). He is averaging 14.6 ppg and has a team-best 49 blocks. Ohams is eleventh in the Atlantic 10 in scoring and sixth in blocked shots (1.75/game).
Ohams has recorded a double-double in each of the past eight games to bring his season total to 20, a new school record. He surpassed the former mark of 19 set by Chris Gaston in 2009-1010. Ohams leads the Atlantic 10 and is fifth in the nation in double-doubles.
The eighth-seeded Rams (15-15, 8-10) return to action on Thursday, March 10, as they open play at the 2022 Atlantic 10 Championship by facing the ninth-seeded George Mason University Patriots at 12:00 p.m. at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. The eight seed is the highest seed for Fordham since the 2016 squad was also seeded eighth.
