Arrest warrants were issued for Giants’ cornerback DeAndre Baker and Seattle Seahawks cornerback Quinton Dunbar in connection to an armed robbery investigation in Florida, per multiple reports.
Baker is charged with four counts of armed robbery with a firearm and aggravated assault.
Baker and others allegedly took thousands of dollars in cash and watches from their alleged victims while brandishing a semi-automatic gun at a cookout Wednesday night, according to a copy of the police report obtained by The Post. Cornerback Quinton Dunbar also was charged but was said to be unarmed.
Baker,22, directed a masked assailant to shoot an unidentified party as that person walked into the room, per the report. One victim told police “he was in fear for his life” as Baker pointed a gun at him, but no one was shot during the incident.
The Giants are aware of the situation and released a brief statement.
Baker will also have the league looking closely into this as it pertains to its personal conduct policy.
“We are aware of the matter but will decline further comment at this time,” a NFL spokesperson said.
Baker and Dunbar are both from Miami.
Additional details from the report include the following:
- The assailant also took $800 and an $18,000 Rolex at Baker’s direction, and $7,000 and a $25,000 Hublot watch from someone else.
- Baker allegedly told one involved party to “give him all his money,” which amounted to $600 and a $600 watch, as stated in the report.
- Gambling and video games were reportedly part of the party, but trouble started when Baker and another man identified only as “Shy” flipped over a card table, pulled out the firearms and pointed them in the face of another person, according to police.
- Two days earlier, Baker and Dunbar are alleged to have lost about $70,000 at a different party near Miami.
- Baker and two others are accused of pre-planning the incident because they left in three separate vehicles — a Mercedez Benz, Lamborghini and BMW — that were pre-positioned to expedite an immediate departure from the area.
- The reporting officer said he contacted Baker by using the cell phone of a friend but Baker hung up. Another call went unanswered.
Baker is entering his second season in the league, he was a first-round pick of the Giants in 2019. He signed a four-year, $10.525 million contract that included a $5.6 million signing bonus as part of the $6.1 million in cash he received as a rookie.
This doesn’t bode well for Baker and first impressions with new head coach Joe Judge.
Giants general manager Dave Gettleman traded up in the draft last year to get Baker. After struggling early, he improved down the stretch last season. Expectations were high for him in 2020.
Looking at this from the football side, this impacts any plans the Giants have for their secondary. Baker, was slotted to start at cornerback with free-agent pickup James Bradberry. The Giants ranked last in the league in passing yards allowed per game.
Baker, pending an investigation, is facing suspension or a team release.
