Barkley electrified fans in Week 1 with 164 rushing yards on 18 carries.
The fifth-year running back played a key role in the Giants’ season-opening 21-20 victory over the Tennessee Titans. Barkley racked up 194 yards from scrimmage, averaging 9.1 yards per carry.
To go along with 164 yards on 18 carries, Barkley added a team-high six receptions for 30 yards.
With 1:06 remaining in the fourth quarter, Barkley caught a pass from Daniel Jones for a the game-deciding two-point conversion.
It was the stellar performance from Barkley the fan base has been waiting on. His 68-yard run in the third quarter looked much more like the type of explosive runs he delivered pre-injuries. There was no hesitation in his runs, it was all burst, confidence, and power.
A return to form for Barkley this season provides a loud bang for the Giants and new head coach Brian Daboll.
“Man, we got the best back in the league,” wide receiver Sterling Shepard said. “He showed it [Sunday]. There ain’t nothing else to be said. Love the way he’s been running the ball at practice, and he brought it straight to the game field. I’m happy and so proud of him because he’s been working his a– off, and he deserves everything. I can’t wait to see him the rest of the season.”
And neither can we.
