In their regular season-opener, the New York Jets were unable to get anything going against Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.
Jackson threw three touchdowns, including two to Devin Duvernay, to lead the Ravens past Gang Green for a 24-9 win, Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
On a Rainy Day in East Rutherford, Jackson didn’t use his legs much and he didn’t need to. The star quarterback completed 17 of 30 pass attempts for 213 yards.
The Jets, meanwhile, struggled on offense for most of the game. With Zach Wilson out until at least Week 4, veteran Joe Flacco was elevated to QB1. Facing his former team, Flacco was mostly ineffective.
The offense couldn’t get much of anything accomplished against Baltimore’s defense. Flacco went 37 of 59 for 307 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.
When the quarterback is throwing 59 times in Week 1, it’s usually not a good sign. Flacco could’ve played better football, however, the offensive line struggled to keep Baltimore’s defense out of his face.
Additionally, when receivers weren’t failing to get open, they were dropping catchable passes.
Overall, poor pass protection, key drops, along with poor play from the secondary, did the Jets in.
The month of September continues to give the Jets problems, where they’re now 0-13 dating back to September 2018.
As for the Ravens, all the talk centering around Jackson’s contract status didn’t appear to affect him in Week 1. Moreover, it also looks like he has legitimate weapons at wide receiver in Duvernay and Rashod Bateman. Jackson hit Bateman on an epic 55-yard touchdown where he absolutely smoked the Jets secondary.
Looking Ahead
The Jets will look to get in the win column at the Cleveland Browns (Sunday, September 18, 1pm ET, CBS).
The Ravens, in their home opener, will welcome the Miami Dolphins to M&T Bank Stadium. (Sunday, September 18, 1pm ET, CBS).
