It was Alyssa Thomas leading the Sun to victory over the Los Angeles Sparks, Thursday night.
Thomas had 18 points, nine rebounds and five assists in a 93-69 road win to clinch a playoff spot. Jonquel Jones added 17 points and eight rebounds for Connecticut.
The Sun took the lead in the first quarter and wouldn’t look back, leading the entire way in Los Angeles.
Connecticut (24-11) clinched the No. 3 seed in the WNBA playoffs, with Las Vegas (25-10) and Chicago (25-10) both holding tiebreakers over the Sun.
DeWanna Bonner (16 points) and Brionna Jones (13 points, seven assists) also came up big for the Sun, scoring in double digits to keep the Sparks at bay.
With the loss, the Sparks (13-22) were eliminated from playoff contention.
Brittney Sykes scored 18 points and Nneka Ogwumike had 10 points and nine rebounds for Los Angeles.
Thursday night’s win for Connecticut swept the back-to-back series against the Sparks.
The Sun have won eight of their last nine games. They’ll conclude their regular season schedule this Sunday, at home against Minnesota.
