The Yankees snapped their season-high five game losing streak with a win in Seattle. The victory, however, also cost them Carpenter.
Carpenter fouled a pitch off his left foot during Monday’s series opener with the Seattle Mariners. Starting at DH, Carpenter stayed in to finish the at-bat, then was replaced for his next at-bat. The Yankees announced the veteran suffered a fracture.
Carpenter, at 36 years old, has slugged 15 homers in only 46 games with the Yankees. Heading into Monday night’s action, his batting line was an impressive .307/.414/.732.
With just about eight weeks left in the regular season, any chance of him returning from the injured list will be within that small window.
The Yankees have struggled in the second half of the season, losing 16 of their last 25 games heading into Monday. Their win over Seattle was a much-needed morale booster.
