J.D. Davis was among four players going to the Giants for right-hand hitting Darin Ruf.
Heading into the MLB trade deadline Tuesday, the Mets felt they needed an upgrade to their depth with the addition of the veteran Ruf. The 36-year old can play left field and first base. He also brings some pop in his bat with 11 home runs this season.
The Mets have to like his career OPS of .929 against left-handed pitching. Therefore, Ruf likely fits into a DH-platoon situation for the Mets as their right-handed bat.
The numbers for Davis his season are down, however, he’s an experienced bat with a versatile glove. Davis played in 140 games for the Mets in 2019, but has played in only 195 games since 2020 due to injuries.
Going to San Francisco along with Davis are left-handed pitcher Thomas Szapucki, and pitching prospects Nick Zwack and Carson Seymour.
