The Bills will be without Jordan Poyer, their All-Pro safety, due to an elbow injury. The good news is the team expects him back in time for the regular season.
Poyer hyperextended his elbow during the team’s training camp practice Tuesday and will miss “a few weeks,” per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. When the Bills open their regular season, September 8 vs the Los Angeles Rams, the expectation is Poyer will be ready to play.
This is the second injury to a starting safety since the Bills opened training camp last Sunday. Fellow starting safety Micah Hyde left a practice late last week due to a hip injury. Hyde, however, did return to practices, seeing limited time.
Poyer was named First Team All-Pro for the first time in his career last year.
With Poyer and Hyde, arguably forming the best safety tandem in the NFL, Bills fans are justified in holding their respective breaths.
Safeties Jaquan Johnson and Damar Hamlin have rotated with the first-team defense and should benefit from the extra reps.
