The gaming brand’s lime green aesthetics will appear alongside New York’s traditional seafoam branding for the penultimate home games of the 2022 season.
BROOKLYN-The New York Liberty have made a big acquisition as they continue to embark on a crucial final stretch in the WNBA regular season.
The team’s newly-announced partnership with Xbox will take on a major game day prescience over the team’s next two contests as the team welcomes the Los Angeles Sparks to Brooklyn on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET, The YES App/CBS Sports Network) and Wednesday night. Barclays Center’s playing surface has undergone an Xbox-branded transformation, uniting the gaming company’s green and slate gray aesthetic with the traditional seafoam decor. The court, the first alternate hardwood amongst current WNBA teams, will be used in the back-to-back set against the Sparks, the Liberty’s penultimate home games of the 2022 campaign before their regular season finale against the Atlanta Dream on Aug. 14.
“Our partnership with Xbox is especially meaningful because it’s part of a larger effort to the highlight the power of women in sports and gaming,” Liberty CEO Keia Clarke said in a statement. “As we look to grow our game and fanbase, we’re thankful to partners like Xbox for their commitment to supporting women and innovation in sports.”
The Liberty (11-18) are Xbox’s latest partners in the realm of women’s sports, which also includes their WNBA compatriots in Atlanta, as well as the English and French women’s national soccer teams.
Those who won’t be in attendance for the next two games at Barclays Center will still get an opportunity to enjoy the new perks from Xbox through a metaverse edition on online gaming platform Roblox’s Dunking Simulator. Users can unlock special features within the simulator and special Liberty-branded features for their gaming avatars.
