Vogelbach comes to the Mets in exchange for reliever Colin Holderman.
The Mets were looking for extra pop in their lineup, Daniel Vogelbach brings a big bat to Queens.
The 29-year old slugger is slashing .228/.338/.430 with an .769 OPS, 12 home runs and 34 RBIs.
Vogelbach has mostly been a designated hitter, however can also play first base. The DH spot has been a weak spot for the Mets all season.
Colin Holderman was solid for the Mets out of the bullpen. The rookie has a 4-0 record with a 2.04 ERA in 15 appearances this season.
It’s likely Vogelbach enters into a platoon role at the DH spot as he’s struggled this season against left-handed pitching. The potential in his bat, however, is an upgrade from what they have — or haven’t been getting with their other options at DH.
With the trade deadline growing closer, the Mets are one of the teams expected to be active. This may not be their only move, however, it’s a strong first one as they address a legitimate need in their lineup.
