If the Yankees or Mets want to get Soto, it will cost a heavy price for the 23-year old star.
With Major League Baseball swinging their way into the second half of the 2022 season, the trade deadline is looming.
The top storyline in baseball right now is Juan Soto from the Washington Nationals. The two-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger Award winner recently declined a 14-year, $440M extension from the team. With the Nationals now willing to entertain trade proposals, teams are positioning for a run at one of the best young players in the game.
Both the Yankees and Mets are interested in acquiring Soto, per MLB insider Bob Nightengale.
Any move for the 2022 Home Run Derby winner will require a team willing to part with top prospects.
The Nationals currently have the worst record in baseball (31-63), they’re clearly in a team rebuild. Moreover, there’s an ownership change on the horizon.
Soto’s current contract status shouldn’t be overlooked in all of this. According to Spotrac, he is making $17.1 million this season and is under team control through 2024.
