The Mets are on the hook for roughly $37.5 million remaining on the 39-year old’s contract.
It’s official, Robinson Cano is now an ex-Met.
After being designated for assignment on May 2, the Mets released Cano ahead of Sunday’s doubleheader against the Phillies.
Cano, to no one’s surprise, passed through waivers unclaimed and has now been released. The 39-year old sat out the entirety of last season due to his second PED suspension.
The numbers this season for Cano were not good. He struggled early this year with a .195/.233/.268 slash line and 25.6 percent strikeout rate.
What’s next for the eight-time All-Star remains to be seen.
