Syracuse guard Symir Torrence will miss the Orange’s game at Pittsburgh on Tuesday, according to head coach Jim Boeheim.
Torrence injured his right knee in the final minutes of Syracuse’s 79-59 loss at Duke on Saturday.
“He’s probably not going to play this week, I don’t think,’’ Boeheim said during his segment on the ACC’s weekly coaches conference call. “He’s not going to be able to play.’’
Torrence, a Syracuse native, transferred to Syracuse last spring after spending his first two years at Marquette.
He has appeared in every one of Syracuse’s game this season. The junior is averaging 2.3 points and 2.9 rebounds in 12.5 minutes per game off the bench. Coach Boeheim has used him as the primary reserve guard behind starters Joe Girard and Buddy Boeheim.
“He’s played well the last couple of games and we’ll miss him,’’ Boeheim said. “He’s added a lot to the lineup. I’m disappointed. He’ll be out for a little while.’’
Without Torrence, look for Syracuse to slide 6-foot-9 starting forward Cole Swider to the backcourt for help.
“We can play Cole,’’ Boeheim said. “Cole has practiced at the 2 (shooting guard position) quite a bit.’’
After playing at Pitt on Tuesday, Syracuse is scheduled to host Wake Forest on Saturday at the Carrier Dome.
