Adama Sanogo has been rolling lately, that’s good news for UConn fans.
Tuesday night, the sophomore forward scored 13 points, while pulling down 15 rebounds, in a 76-59 blowout win over Butler.
For Sanogo, it was his third straight double-double. According to Stats Perform, he is the first major conference player to have 15-plus rebounds and three-plus blocks in three straight games since Wake Forest’s Tim Duncan in 1996-97. Yes, the same Tim Duncan.
In terms of impact, the Sanogo-factor is real for No. 25-ranked UConn.
The Huskies have won two in a row and Sanogo’s presence in the paint is a big reason why.
R.J. Cole, Tyrese Martin, along with the emerging Andre Jackson, bring superb guardplay for head coach Dan Hurley. Sanogo’s dominance in the paint as a rim protector and low-post scoring option makes UConn a dangerous team to watch in the top half of the Big East standings.
Three of the four teams currently ahead of UConn — Providence, Villanova, and Xavier — are nationally ranked teams. Marquette, the fourth team ahead of the Huskies, are surging under new head coach, Shaka Smart.
UConn needs all hands on deck to keep their momentum going, a dominant Sanogo is essential to the puzzle.
