Fordham is finding out this season there’s little time to enjoy the good in the Atlantic 10.
The good, for the Rams, was racing out to a 9-5 overall record, 2-0 in the conference.
Antonio Daye played an integral role in Fordham’s early-season success. However, with Daye recently withdrawing from the university, first-year head coach Kyle Neptune has his hands full.
The Rams will miss Daye and his team-leading 16.8 points per game. This much was evident in their 63-45 loss at Saint Louis, Saturday afternoon.
Darius Quisenberry led Fordham with 15 points on 5 of 13 shooting from the field. Saint Louis, however, bullied the Rams on the boards, with 48 rebounds to 26.
But it was Fordham’s futility on offense which proved to be their undoing. They shot just 28.6 percent from the field, along with a 5 for 20 showing from the 3-point line.
For Fordham (9-6, 2-1), For Fordham (9-6, 2-1), the immediate challenge is generating offense without Daye. Saturday’s loss to Saint Louis, 45 points, was their lowest scoring performance of the season.
Quisenberry (16.4 points per game) has scored in double figures in 15 of 16 games this season, the Rams will need his production to continue.
Moreover, Neptune has options to help with the offense. Chuba Ohams (14.1 points per game, 11.4 rebounds) has been a force in the paint for Fordham.
It’s been a promising start for Fordham, let’s see how they handle their season’s first bout with adversity.
