The Giants are running out of ways to answer why the losses keep piling up. Frustration may not even begin to describe the product they’ve put on the field.
We’re not bordering on insanity.
Because with the Giants (1-5) heading towards another losing season, all eyes appear to be turning towards the front office.
This is a familiar feeling for the fan base. Their team’s Week 6 showing at home against the Los Angeles Rams was about as bad as it gets. The 38-11 final score is generous, when you consider the Giants scored a touchdown in the final minutes.
And now with head coach Joe Judge doing all he can to keep his players, along with the fan base, engaged – the hot seat for general manager Dave Gettleman is quickly becoming the focus again.
The defense has not played up to expectations this season. Big money was spent by Gettleman to upgrade the secondary and beef up the defensive line. So far, it just hasn’t worked.
Before his four-turnover game Sunday against the Rams, Daniel Jones appeared to be showing signs this season of progression. The jury remains out on Jones, the quarterback Gettleman worked so hard to sell fans on as the present and future.
The poor performance from Jones wasn’t entirely on him, there’s another familiar answer for this coming.
The offensive line failed Jones on numerous occasions on Sunday. It’s a red-flag Gettleman has failed to steer the Giants away from, like he pledged four years ago.
There’s only so much Judge, a second-year head coach, can do to hold this team together. He has an impatient ownership group he’s trying to please. I’ll ask this question again…
How much more can John Mara and Steve Tisch watch before they decide it’s time to step in?
They’re watching Judge, but they’re watching Gettleman too. His batting average still needs to come up, remember that?
If the losses continue to pile up, they’ll be left with no choice but to show Gettleman the door.
Anything less would be frustrating.
Anything less would be insanity.
