The Red Storm of St. John’s and the Panthers of Pittsburgh will meet in the Gotham Classic at Madison Square Garden on December 18 with Seton Hall facing Iona in the other game of the doubleheader. Monmouth and Colgate complete the field.
Seton Hall leads the all-time series against the Gaels, 30-9, with the most recent meeting coming on Nov 30, 2020, an 86-64 win for the Pirates. Head coach Kevin Willard’s first head coaching job was at Iona where he went 21-10 and won MAAC Coach of the Year honors in his final season. Willard served under current Iona head coach Rick Pitino at Louisville from 2001-07 – starting as an assistant coach before working his way up to associate head coach – and in the NBA with the Boston Celtics from 1997-01.
