For Kadarius Toney, his time has come.
The Giants have been bringing along the first-round pick slowly throughout the first three games of the season.
Hamstring injuries suffered Sunday to starting receivers Darius Slayton and Sterling Shepard, however, have created an opportunity for Toney to show what he can do.
“To say someone is going to just jump in and just replicate completely what we do with those two guys, I don’t think that’s something we’re going to look to do, coach Joe Judge said. “It’s going to be more about playing to his strengths, giving him the opportunity to get the ball in his hands and make some plays.”
What Toney brings to the field for Big Blue…
While playing for Florida University last season, Toney led the Gators with 70 receptions for 984 yards (averaging 14.1 per). His 10 touchdowns were tied for seventh most in the FBS. He brings speed and versatility as he contributed to the Gators as a runner and returner.
“It’s something we’re focused on right now,” Judge said. “We’ve got to get him the ball and we definitely want to. We saw [Sunday] a couple of glimpses of just him with the ball in his hands. He’s got the ability to make some guys miss in space, he runs hard, and he competes. He comes off the ball with a different level of speed than a lot of guys.”
Toney saw action on 46 offensive snaps against the Falcons in Week 3, he secured catches on back-to-back plays for 16 yards.
The Giants, specifically offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, have drawn the ire of their fan base at the start of the season. The offense has shown flashes of it’s potential, but the unit has struggled to score touchdowns.
This team needs a spark to help get their first win of the season, Toney could be the solution.
