The fan base for the Jets won’t want to read this. Their team’s 0-3 start to this season shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.
The Jets failed to score a point on Sunday — not one point — in an embarrassing 26-0 loss at Denver. For the third straight year, Gang Green has an 0-3 record.
Furthermore, much like the fan base for the 0-3 Giants, there’s a familiar feeling of here we go again.
Believe me, I get it.
Three weeks ago, the Jets took the field ready to start another new chapter. They have a new head coach, a new starting quarterback, and the fans are pumped for all the energy which comes with that.
And then the game started.
The reality hits like the impact from an all-out blitz. Their new voice in charge — is a first-year head coach. The new starting quarterback — is a 22-year old rookie. The roster is one of the youngest in the NFL.
For a team that hasn’t reached the playoffs since 2010, what fan wants to hear about going through another process? But with a new head coach, new quarterback, and a very young team — growing pains are guaranteed.
The first three weeks of this season has been exactly that for the Jets.
For the season, the Jets have only two touchdowns. Zach Wilson threw four interceptions in week 2 against New England, he followed that up with two more interceptions against Denver. The offensive line’s protection has been — offensive. The unit has allowed 14 sacks in three games.
Their offense has struggled immensely and, overall, the team is not good enough to overcome mistakes at critical points in the game. Moreover, there’s been some questionable decisions pertaining to the game day depth chart and play calling.
If out of adversity comes opportunity, the Jets will learn from their growing pains. This won’t be an overnight fix and their poor start shouldn’t surprise anyone.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll see what this team does to correct all that’s gone wrong so far. It’s the part of the process we hate to see, but we know is necessary to go through.
