Offensive lineman Nick Gates suffered a lower left leg fracture on the team’s second offensive drive of the game tonight.
The injury occurred with 5:57 left in the first quarter. Gates, starting at left guard, was moved from center in an offensive line shakeup. The move was triggered by left guard Shane Lemieux going on injured reserve earlier in the day.
It’s a body blow to the Giants as they’ve struggled to build continuity on their O-Line. But it’s gut-wrenching to see him go down, he was elected a team captain before the season.
Teammates gathered around Gates after he went down, he was placed on a stretcher with his left left stabilized in an air cast.
Ben Bredeson was inserted in as a replacement.
