It’s a new day for the Jets with rookie Zach Wilson as their starting quarterback. But Gang Green isn’t the only team in the AFC East ready to start a new chapter.
The Patriots shook the table Tuesday morning when they released quarterback Cam Newton. This means rookie QB Mac Jones will be the new starting quarterback in New England.
Jones was drafted 15th overall out of Alabama in April; he has impressed throughout training camp and preseason. The news of his promotion, and Newton’s exit, sent shockwaves through social media.
The move potentially sets up a Week 2 matchup between Wilson and Jones. New England will face the Jets at MetLife Stadium in Gang Green’s home opener.
With Jones moving into the starting job for New England, it’s a new day in the AFC East division.
Buffalo’s Josh Allen, at 25 years old, is now the oldest of the expected starting quarterbacks in the division. Jones is 22 years old. And Wilson, the number two overall pick in this year’s draft, is 28 days younger than Jones – also at 22 years old.
And, no, we have not forgotten about 23-year-old Tua Tagovailoa with the Miami Dolphins. However, we’re also keeping our eye on the rumor mill and Miami’s reported interest in Houston Texans’ quarterback Deshaun Watson.
