The Jets made it clear what they think about Alijah Vera-Tucker. They also wasted no time in showing their commitment to protecting their new franchise quarterback.
Gang Green traded up in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft from No. 23 to No. 14 and grabbed the 6-4, 315 pound Vera-Tucker. The USC offensive linemen projects to line up at guard and next to left tackle Mekhi Becton. That’s a scary sight for opposing teams to try and scheme against.
According to one scouting report on Vera-Tucker, he was unlikely to fall below 17 on the draft board. The Jets clearly felt the same about him.
They traded the No. 23 pick, and two third-rounders in this year’s draft to Minnesota, for the chance to get Vera-Tucker at 14. The Jets also picked up a fourth round pick.
Earlier in the night, the Jets selected quarterback Zach Wilson with the No. 2 overall pick.
