Gerrit Cole was just too much for the Orioles on this night.
The ace of the staff was fantastic with a 13-strikeout performance to propel the Yankees to a 7-2 victory, at Yankee Stadium.
The Yankees clinched their first series win of the year after winning the first two games against Baltimore, they improve to 3-2 on the season.
Cole scattered four hits over seven shutout innings of work with zero walks. He threw 97 pitches and earned his first win of the season after recording his 39th career double-digit strikeout game.
The Yankees, for the second night in a row, brought run support to the party.
Jay Bruce hit his first home run of the season on a solo shot in the second inning. The veteran is making a strong first impression on the fan base with his bat and glove at first base.
Aaron Judge homered in his second straight game, hitting a three-run HR in the eighth inning. For Judge, it was his 19th career home run against the Orioles — the most versus any opponent in his career.
The story, however, was Cole and his dominance. His 13 strikeouts were the most by a Yankees pitcher since Masahiro Tanaka (we miss “Tanaka Time”) when he struck out 15 against Toronto in 2017.
What’s on deck?
The Yankees look for a series sweep of the Orioles and will send Jameson Taillon to the mound for his debut in pinstripes.
