For Francisco Lindor, the Mets, and all of us watching from the outside, the suspense is finally over.
The Mets have agreed to a contract extension with Lindor. The deal, per multiple reports, is in the range of $340 million over 10 years.
The 27-year old Lindor is one of baseball’s brightest stars, with this deal he’ll spend the bulk of his career playing in New York.
Anthony DiComo of MLB.com is reporting Lindor’s deal is a 10-year, $341 million deal and includes a limited no-trade clause.
And $341 million, is just the reported extension. His $22.3 million salary for 2021 remains unchanged, the extension will begin in 2022. That’s a total commitment of $363.3 million over 11 seasons.
New York Post columnist Joel Sherman is also hearing a $21 million signing bonus included. That’s a lot of coin for the star shortstop.
The negotiations for this deal reached national attention during spring training. Lindor had set a deadline for an extension to be reached before Opening Day. Well, here we are — on the eve of Opening Day. Pretty good timing, fitting for a climatic ending.
Signing Lindor was a must for the Mets.
Now it’s time to play ball.
