As of this Monday, Kyrie Irving will not be traveling with the Brooklyn Nets on their late March three-game road trip. The 7x All-Star will sit out to tend to a family matter, according to the team.
Brooklyn’s road trip will feature matchups against the Portland Trailblazers, Utah Jazz and Detroit Pistons.
The timing is unfortunate for Brooklyn, they’ve been balling out as of late, winning 15 of their last 17 games. During this stretch the Nets have been averaging 118.9 PPG (4th in the league), 26.4 APG (8th), 50.2% FG (3rd) and 39.8% 3FG (4th).
Irving has been a big part of that. Frankly, throughout this whole season, he’s playing exceptionally well.
In the 31 out of 43 games that he’s played, he’s averaged 28.1 PPG, 5.7 APG, 4.8 RPG, 52% FG and 40.6% 3FG.
Why, exactly, Irving is sitting out is unknown at this time.
For all we know, we may never know the true reason. Just like when he missed seven games in a row in January for “personal reasons.” Irving did let the team know what his reasons were for missing time. The rest of the world, however, was left to speculate on what was going on with him.
As you might imagine, this time people are speculating as well (because what else would they do?). This time, fans are thinking it has something to do with his birthday, since that is this Tuesday (March 23). The NBA champion will turn 29 years old.
Honestly though that seems like a reach.
As big of a deal as people made when he took those games off a couple of months ago, it’s highly unlikely he would take time off again this season unless it was absolutely needed.
In the meantime, let’s just wish Irving the best wishes as he takes time away from the team.
