The Brooklyn Nets are trading forward Dzanan Musa and a 2021 second-round pick to the Detroit Pistons for guard Bruce Brown.
The Nets are knee-deep in NBA trade rumors. Well, with the league’s moratorium on transactions scheduled to be lifted Monday at Noon ET, it’s time to get started.
The deal, per Adrian Wojanarowski of ESPN, will be made official when the moratorium is lifted.
Brown’s bringing defense to the table for new head coach Steve Nash and his backcourt rotation. His toughness will play well in Brooklyn. A second-round pick in 2018, Brown started 99 games in his first two NBA seasons.
Musa was a fan favorite in Brooklyn and will be missed. However, a change of scenery will likely do the 21-year old some good. Ironically, he was the 29th overall pick in the same draft as Brown.
Musa appeared in 54 NBA games for the Nets, including five postseason games. He also spent time with Brooklyn’s G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets.
The Pistons are in the beginning phases of a rebuild under new general manager Troy Weaver. This could be an opportunity for Musa to get playing time and improve his stock.
As for the 2021 second-round pick the Nets are sending to Detroit with Musa, that pick is via the Toronto Raptors.
